ROEL® WINS DESIGN-BUILD EXCELLENCE AWARD
From the Design-Build Institute of America for the Quechan Casino Resort
San Diego, CA… On Friday, November 6, at the Design-Build Excellence Awards dinner, the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) awarded ROEL Construction with the Design-Build Excellence Award in the Private Sector Building Over $25 million Category. Selected by the DBIA jury of industry experts, including owners, design-builders, architects and engineers, National Design-Build Award projects must demonstrate successful application of design-build principles, including collaboration in the early stages of the project and the acceptance of single-entity risk. The project must be completed on time, on budget and without litigation. Winning projects are honored for their advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery and finding unique solutions for project challenges.
“It is a great feeling to be recognized by our peers for delivering on the promises we make. I appreciate the value that the DBIA sees in our approach and am grateful for this honor,” stated Wayne Hickey, Chief Executive Officer of ROEL.
Taking this expansive 30-acre master planned site from design to a destination resort 4-1/2 months early, necessitated moving over 1 million cubic yards of dirt, relocating high voltage lines while maintaining optimum safety measures that the oppressive desert climate presented. Due to the remote location, two wells were drilled for the water treatment plant creating the resort’s potable water supply; and a wastewater treatment facility was built to eliminate reliance upon local infrastructure as well as provide reclaimed water to sustain the lush landscape. The 297,000-square-foot casino resort design elements incorporate high-end finishes of stone, granite, stacked stone columns, and wood beams throughout. The five-story, poured in place concrete, 166-room hotel includes 8 luxury suites, 33,000-square-feet of gaming, a 20,000-square-foot event center, 24-hour cafe, food court, sports bar, and signature steakhouse. Additional features include an interactive beach entry pool with pop-up jets and a lazy river, a 1,200 person concert venue and surface parking to accommodate up to 1,650 cars and recreational vehicles.
