ROEL® CONSTRUCTION BREAKS GROUND ON THE NEW SAN DIEGO COUNTY OPERATIONS CENTER

San Diego, CA… ROEL Construction recently broke ground on the first two buildings at the new San Diego County Operations Center (COC) campus which will replace facilities built in 1964.  The current center includes government offices, emergency operations, maintenance facilities and warehouse space, encompassing approximately 425,000 square feet that houses about 18 existing buildings.  This project is the first time that the facilities have been upgraded since their construction.

“This ground breaking represents one of the largest infrastructure projects in the history of County government,” said Chairwoman Dianne Jacob. “The first phase is taking place without the help of the federal stimulus package and is greatly needed to meet the changing demands of our dynamic region.”

The COC master plan is comprised of three major phases consisting of six four-story office buildings that cover approximately 900,000 square feet, a 40,000-square-foot conference center, two concrete parking structures covering approximately 1.3 million square feet, and a central plant with a 3,600-ton cooling capacity.  The new campus will be LEED silver certified and the first phase is scheduled to complete in fall 2010

The first phase includes two new 4-story office buildings totaling 300,000 sf constructed using a brace-frame structural steel core with decorative pre-cast concrete and glass storefront cladding. The first phase also includes the 12,000 sf Central Plant, and a six level, 1800 stall concrete parking structure.
